Ann Marie O’Neill, CEO
Patient Founder and acting CEO. Having survived a number of blood clot events and understanding little about the it, she realised something needed to be done to raise awareness about this potentially preventable life- threatening condition. She set up Thrombosis Ireland in 2016 with Shay Kearney a fellow survivor and handful of amazing people, receiving charitable status a year later in 2017. Ann Marie is determined to make Thrombosis a household name, ensure every citizen knows, The Risks, The signs and the need to act fast if they suspect a blood clot. She strives to empower patients to ask for a VTE Risk Assessment before they are admitted to hospital and to encourage medical staff to make patients aware of the continued risk of a blood clot for up to 90 days after discharge and most importantly arm their Patients with the information to protect themselves.
Mel Duignan, Chairman
Mel Duignan B.A. Hons, F.C.A. Dip IFRS, is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland and a Financial Services Executive with a great interest in healthcare and the vital role of charities can play in the improvements to the patient experience as well as Government Policy. Mel is Financial Controller at London Life & General, Reinsurance since 2004.
Karen Collins, Director
Karen Collins, BSc in Digital Technology and Design (Distinction) is a Senior Business Architect & Design Consultant working on the design and implementation of a Global Business Operating Model. Her current role is lead business Design Consultant for Manufacturing Food & Ingredients Industry. She was previously, Global Supply Chain and logistics with Pharmaceuticals (Mylan) food, Beverage and Nutrition (Nestle, Glanbia) and Technology (Creative Labs).
Deirdre Kelly, Director
Deirdre has over 20 years of leadership experience in the pharmaceutical industry, across sales, marketing, market access, and business development. Deirdre has a BSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics with post-graduate qualifications in Marketing and Health Economics. Deirdre is also a director of the Alliance of Medicines for Ireland trade association. Deirdre has been a board member of Thrombosis Ireland since 2019.
Ann O’Sullivan, Medical Advisor
Ann O’Sullivan, former Clinical Nurse Manager, National Coagulation Centre, St. James’s Hospital, James Street, Dublin 8. Ann O Sullivan completed her general nurse training in the Meath Hospital in 1980. She started working in St. James’s Hospital in 1982 and worked in a variety of surgical wards including those with vascular and esophageal specialties. Ann moved to the National Coagulation Centre in 1998. She has supported Thrombosis Ireland from the beginning.

Guvanch Meredov, Director of Technology: Guvanch has survived a number of severe blood clots since he was a teenager and continues to fight his chronic illness. This has motivated him to work in healthcare technology sector. He is a strong believer in the cause of utilising technology to optimise frontline healthcare workers’ time at the point of patient care and leads multiple projects to deliver efficient product solutions for this purpose across numerous hospitals. Besides his daily job, he is passionate about volunteering with us to raise awareness about venous thromboembolism (VTE) and its potential risks to livelihood as a patient advocate and a technology director.
